Find My AirPods: How to Find Lost AirPods
To find your AirPods, open Find My, select Devices, then your AirPods. Check their location and use Play Sound or Find Nearby if available. Already at the likely spot? Bluetooth Finder on iPhone can add a signal-strength clue, but only while a nearby AirPod is transmitting a discoverable BLE signal.
Before you start
Use Find My on the Apple Account linked to your AirPods.
If the map points elsewhere, reach that location safely before trying a local scan.
For Bluetooth Finder, enable Bluetooth and its permission in iPhone Settings.
Search step by step
Check Find My for the missing item and use the options offered for your model.
At the likely location, scan with Bluetooth Finder. Pick a recognizable candidate; a name or strong signal alone is not proof.
Pause for several readings, move a few steps and compare. Try another direction if the signal weakens.
At a repeatably stronger spot, inspect sofa seams, pockets, bags and the floor under furniture. Confirm the physical item.
Start with a Bluetooth scan.
Open Bluetooth Finder, choose a likely device and move slowly. A rising signal is a useful clue that you are getting closer.

Select the missing side in Find My where supported. If only one location is shown, find that AirPod, return it to the case and refresh before searching for the other. Keep the earbud you still have out of the search.
Find a lost AirPods case
Apple documents separate case location for AirPods 4 with ANC, AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case, AirPods Pro 2 and AirPods Pro 3. Older empty cases may not appear independently. A Bluetooth scanner cannot add a case-finding feature the hardware does not provide.
AirPods are offline or the battery is dead
Find My may retain a last-known location. When AirPods are offline, sound and nearby finding are unavailable until they reconnect. Retrace your steps and search that place by hand; a live BLE scan needs a transmitting radio.
If Find My was not set up
Start where you last used the AirPods. Check clothing from that day, charging spots, bedding and bags. A local scan may help while the missing item has power, but it cannot reconstruct past locations or search another building.
If it does not appear
Nothing appears in the scanner
Check Bluetooth access on your iPhone, then scan the likely area again. An empty list does not establish that the room is empty: the missing AirPod may be asleep, out of range or not advertising.
The AirPods are probably in a closed case
The case state can change advertising. Do not rely on a generic scanner to detect it. Check the model-specific Find My result and search likely storage places.
Several entries look plausible
Compare each candidate from more than one spot. Nearby devices belonging to someone else may have similar names or stronger signals.
