Compatibility

Devices BLE Detector may discover

Compatibility is based on radio behavior, not a permanent brand whitelist. A model can appear during one state and disappear when it sleeps, connects, enters a case, or runs out of battery.

Follow a trend, not a distance.

Short answer

BLE Detector can discover nearby devices that are powered on and advertising Bluetooth Low Energy in a way iOS exposes to third-party apps. Product names may be generic or absent.

Before you start

  • Likely when advertising: many wireless earbuds, fitness bands, smart rings, watches, speakers, keyboards, mice, sensors, and trackers.

  • Conditional: AirPods in or out of a case, Apple Pencil models, and accessories already connected to another phone.

  • Not detectable live: powered-off devices, depleted batteries, remote devices, and products using only non-BLE discovery.

  • Not a promise: brand name, exact distance, ownership, GPS location, or support for every firmware version.

Search step by step

  1. 01

    Charge and wake the accessory.

  2. 02

Place it close to the iPhone for the first test.

  3. 03

Scan for 15–30 seconds and compare entries before and after powering the target off.

  4. 04

Repeat after disconnecting the manufacturer app or another phone if permitted.

Lost something nearby?

Start with a Bluetooth scan.

Open BLE Detector, choose a likely device and move slowly. A rising signal is a useful clue that you are getting closer.

Compatibility changes by state

The most honest test is the actual model in its current mode. Firmware and operating-system changes can alter advertising behavior.

Frequently asked questions

Does BLE Detector support AirTag?+

It is not a substitute for Find My and does not claim general AirTag tracking. Use Apple Find My for AirTag.

Why is the device name missing?+

A BLE advertisement does not have to expose a stable, human-readable product name.

Can it identify who owns a device?+

No. A visible radio signal does not establish identity or ownership.
